Urban Peak

I have been working with Urban peak for seven years now. It started off with a friend asking if I would help out with a probono project for them. I had never heard of Urban Peak even though their drop-in center was only a few blocks from my studio.

I had worked with other organizations over the years that aimed at helping out the homeless in our community but this was different. This was a program that was for the homeless youth in my city. This was a program that was not just about handouts but really wanted to make a difference in their lives. They offered acceptance, guidance, and support to positively change the course of their lives.

It was really the first time I had worked with an organization that I could see make a difference. I offer up my photography and video skills to them. At first, I didn’t think I made much of a difference, but over the years I have found out how important my impact has been. Being able to photograph their youth and show how amazing and powerful these individuals has really made a difference. I am able to connect with them quickly. They are able to share a moment with me, be vulnerable and let me help them tell their story.
